# Claude Chat and web

Connect Pharaoh to Claude.ai and the Claude app as a custom MCP connector. Add the server URL, sign in with GitHub and ask about your code in chat.

These instructions apply to Chat in the Claude app and claude.ai. For Code sessions, use the [Claude Code guide](/docs/connect/claude-code.md).

Before you connect, [install the GitHub App](/docs/connect/github-app.md) and wait for a live repository to finish mapping on the [setup page](https://mcp.pharaoh.so/setup).

1. Open Settings > Connectors and add a custom connector.
2. Set the name to `Pharaoh` and the server URL to `https://mcp.pharaoh.so/mcp`.
3. Choose Streamable HTTP if asked for a transport. Keep other settings at their defaults.
4. Sign in with GitHub, then ask Claude to use Pharaoh to show a codebase map for one of your live repositories.

Existing connections using `/sse` remain supported. For a new connection, use `/mcp` to avoid clients identifying the URL as legacy SSE.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization owner may need to add or allow the connector before members can use it.

## Verify the connection

Start a new conversation and ask: “Which Pharaoh tools do you have?” Claude should list tools such as `get_codebase_map` and `get_blast_radius`. Then ask for the codebase map of a live repository and its last refreshed time. On the setup page, **Connect your AI client** now reads “Last question just now”.

If Claude answers without calling a tool, open the tools menu in the message box and check that Pharaoh is turned on for this conversation.

## Common errors

* **“is not tracked by Pharaoh”**: the GitHub App can't read that repository. Grant it access in [GitHub's installed-app settings](https://github.com/settings/installations), or for an organization's repository in that organization's settings under GitHub Apps, then refresh setup.
* **“isn't in your access list”**: Pharaoh maps the repository, but your GitHub account can't reach it. Ask an owner to give your account access to it on GitHub.
* **“failed during mapping”**: the last map did not complete. Pharaoh retries on the next push to the default branch; ask about another live repository meanwhile.
* **A repository that isn't live**: on the free plan, Claude gets the live repository's name and the choice to switch to the requested one or upgrade. See [account and billing](/docs/use-pharaoh/pricing.md).
* **“No accessible map”**: the GitHub account you signed in with can't reach a mapped repository. Check that the app is installed on the account or organization that owns it, and that your account is a member or collaborator there.
